Lana B. Morgan

Thank you for allowing me the privilege and honor to serve as your supervisor of Elections. It has been an honor to serve. It has been my desire to make the Supervisor of Elections office more efficient and to promote voter education and to ensure the sanctity of your vote.

I have served as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Secretary of the Penny Foundation, Member of the Mayo Rotary Club, Woman's Chairman of Farm Bureau, Pianist at Midway Baptist Church, and Substitute Teacher for 10 years. Before being elected to office, my husband and I operated a broiler farm and raised beef cattle. We have three children and they are all graduates of the University of Florida.

Due to the ever-changing laws, I have worked to remain current with the changes and become knowledgeable of the laws. I have met the challenge of new technology as it has arisen. I have updated the voter registration system and successfully implemented the NVRA (National Voter Registration Act). One of the brought about by this law, was the way people register to vote. An NVRA report is sent to the Secretary of States, office at the end of each month with voter registration information. We are in the process of complying with the HAVA (Help America Vote Act), which was passed by Congress in 2002. One of the requirements of this act is to have a voting device, such as a touch screen-voting unit, in each precinct by the 2006 elections. We will still use the optical scan, which uses the paper ballot. The touch screen will allow voters with sight impairment or who is unable to read, the ability to vote their ballot without assistance. The system will have a headset with an audio ballot. As the elections laws change, so does the necessity to change the Security Procedures. One of the other drastic changes will be the State Central Voter Database, beginning in January 2005.

I serve impartially and nonpartisan. I am a conservative, and I am frugal with the money that operates the supervisor's office. I have tried to maintain an efficient and cost effective operation of the Supervisor of Elections office. My office is always open to you. Our office strives to always assist you in any way possible and in a friendly manner.

This office does more that conduct elections. We supply all the needs of the candidates. We furnish voter lists, by district, or county wide, by walking list or alphabetical to candidates. We furnish labels, assist in financial disclosures, Form 1's for county, assist in expenditure reports, state and local Democratic and Republican needs, verify petitions for candidates, and initiative petitions, lay out ballots styles, do poll worker training, do voter registration and education at the school, take absentee ballot requests, file maintenance for current registrations, write security procedures, register voters, conduct elections, canvass absentee ballots, conduct Logic and Accuracy tests, set up polling places and the list goes on.

Due to a new election law passed in 2004, the office will provide early voting. Each election office will be designated a polling place, beginning 15 days before the election. Any voter may come into the election office and vote their ballot and run it through the M-100 tabulator. We will be open 8 hours per weekday and 8 hours for two Saturdays, prior to each election. Early voting will end on the day before the election at 5:00 p.m.

My pledge to you is to always conduct honest and fair elections and to make sure your vote counts. (Only once)

May God bless each of you.
